Education – Knowledge
Overcoming Obstacles
Many children find themselves having to contend with various obstacles that they must overcome such as physical ailments, mental health limitations and socialization issues. Some physical limitations could include visual impairments, auditory limitations, speech restrictions, ambulatory limitations, limitations with fine motor skills, and large muscle limitations. Some of the mental health issues include autism, ADD, ADHD, abuse, domestic violence, divorce, stress, anxiety and fear. Additional obstacles could include obstacles related to inability to socially adjust to other children and to adults.
This is well covered in the “In the Way They Should Go” book we provide in our store.
Academics
Another critical element for education is academics. Unfortunately in most educational environments it is a one size fits all academic experience. The Scripture “Train up a child in the way he should go” implies that each child has their own bent. Some children take in information visually, some children are auditory learners and others will learn through a “hands on” experience. The children who take in information differently from the teachers teaching methods find themselves at a disadvantage. We should be careful to know our children well, so that we can teach them in the most profitable way. This is a technique discussed in our book, “In the Way They Should Go.”
Socialization
Socialization is an important component to our understanding of the world. God perfectly designed the family as our first introduction to socialization. The family meal is a time for acknowledging God’s provision and for conversing with members of the family. This socialization is the foundation of new experiences with others. Unfortunately we live in a world where children are growing up in front of various forms of multimedia with no opportunity to converse with family or friends. Many young people today, even when they are sitting together, will choose to interact with their electronic devices rather than through face to face discussion. Because business today requires collaboration of thoughts and ideas, there are many leaders concerned for how business will get done in the future. Because information is at our fingertips, it has created a vacuum for critical thinking skills in the minds of the youth. Those skills need to be developed through socialization as well as academics.
Understanding
Romans 15:7, NIV “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” Proverbs 8:33 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” God created each of us for a reason. Colossians 3:23 says, “Work as if working for the Lord, not for men.”
Wisdom
Scripture represents the foundation to all knowledge. When we are diligent about the study of His word, he gives us discernment, wisdom, and understanding. We have blinders on without these attributes. We must have discernment of people to understand their motivation. If the motivation is love for God and love for His people, we can trust an individual more than if they are self-serving in their approach. When God gives us understanding, it is generally an understanding of things. Just like the sons of Issachar, we too must know or understand the times we are living in and take corrective measures. The world has its own agenda but so does God. We will never be surprised by events when we stay in tune with God’s plan for our lives. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. When we have wisdom from the Lord, he protects us and gives us a clear path for our lives.
Discernment
Scripture is foundational to all knowledge. The world gives us knowledge, but all knowledge from the world is not truth. God gives us knowledge as well and all His knowledge is rooted in truth. God also gives wisdom, understanding and discernment through the Bible and through the words he gives His people and those with prophetic gifts.
