Graduating Cum Laude from Defiance College with a B.A. Degree in Religious Education, Millie went on to receive her M.A Degree in Guidance and Counseling from The Ohio State University in 1981 and became a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in 1985. She served as President and Executive Director for 20 years at Lighthouse Counseling Services, retiring to write and teach in 2002.
Widely known in Ohio as a counselor and teacher, Millie’s years of experience as a Director of Christian Education, a Parenting Educator and Human Relations Trainer added depth and understanding to her counseling and leadership in founding Lighthouse Counseling Services in 1981 and directing this major therapy system for 20 years. During her time at Lighthouse, Millie wrote a handbook originally designed for helpline volunteers, but ultimately developed into The Pathfinder; A quick reference and intervention guide for pastors, counselors, doctors and other caregivers.
After her retirement and death of her husband, Millie was ordained as a pastor and served three years while field-testing her first healing curriculum, PATHWAYS TO HOPE AND HEALING. In 2002 Millie began a ten-year journey of co-writing a case study entitled RUTH: Secret of the Silenced voices (A Guide to Working with People with Dissociative Identity Disorders). During this period from 2002-2012, as a by-product of the case study, Millie wrote her next book WHY WE CAN’T “Just Get Over It”: Healing the Affects of Prolonged Stress and Trauma, and began the development of the Compassionate Care Training Center (now The Healing Tree Training Centers) in churches in Central Ohio. In 2009 Millie was invited to teach these Pathways (PHH) and “Why We Can’t ‘Just Get Over It’” (JGO) at The Ohio Reformatory for Women in Delaware, Ohio, the Zoe Bible Institute (2006), and Freedom Bible College (2011), all in the State of Ohio. from which many people have been trained and certified as mentors and trainers who teach the classes in their churches and ministries as well as serve to take the classes to China, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Jamaica, and Finland.
Millie is recognized for her successful treatment of dissociative disorders. Her groundbreaking work in the areas of early childhood sexual, ritual abuse and Dissociative Identity Disorder, has brought healing and restoration to thousands through her strategic, systematic design combining faith principles and proven professional strategies.
